One of the region’s hidden gems
The Blue Duck Station Experience
Just a 40 minute helicopter flight from Taupo airport lies one of the region’s hidden gems. Blue Duck Station, owned and run by Dan Steele and Sandy Waters is a spectacular property, steeped in history and located on the banks of the Whanganui river upstream from the famous ‘Bridge to Nowhere’. Blue Duck Station is a New Zealand sheep and beef farm with a strong emphasis on conservation and adventure. There is something here to thrill everybody in the family. From ATV bush safaris, epic tramping opportunities, Jet boating experiences on the historic Whanganui River or horse trekking over Blue Duck’s stunning bush and farmland.
Another huge drawcard to Blue Duck Station is the recent addition of their hilltop restaurant “The Chef’s Table”. Located on one of the highest points of the station affectionately known as the Top of the World, it has views of the Tongariro and Whanganui National Parks. Dining begins after a 2-hour ATV Bush Safari of the station’s ongoing conservation project to protect our native bird life and rainforest. The fine dining experience entails a refined 10 course degustation menu with much of the ingredients being sourced from the station. Beautifully appointed cabins are located on site with the restaurant so you can enjoy a very comfortable night’s sleep after your day of adventure and fine dining.
